Recoveries overshoot Covid cases in India

NEW DELHI, Jan 29: India on Friday recorded 20,746 recoveries in the past 24 hours as against 18,855 new cases of Covid-19 detected in as many as 7.42 lakh tests carried out in a day. India's cumulative recoveries stand at 1.04 crore, which is 96.96% of the total infections in the country.
As many as 85.36% of the new recovered cases are observed to be concentrated in seven States/UTs. Chhattisgarh has reported the maximum number of single day recoveries with 6,479 newly recovered cases. 5,594 people recovered in Kerala in the past 24 hours followed by 3,181 in Maharashtra.
As many as 85.73% of the new cases are from five states, with Chhattisgarh reporting the highest daily new cases of 6,451, followed by Kerala 5,771 and Maharashtra 2,889.
A total of 161 fatalities were recorded in the past 24 hours, eight states accounting for 85.89% of them. Maharashtra saw the maximum 50 casualties, followed by Chhattisgarh 35 and Kerala 19.
The cumulative death toll in India is 1,54,010 as against 1.72 lakh still the active cases. India's case load per million population at 7,768 is the lowest globally. India's cumulative tests have crossed 19.50 crore, just 20,000 short of 20 crore.
As many as 30 lakh people have been vaccinated till 8 AM on Friday, the Health Ministry said, adding that these figures will go up in the evening when the new statistics will be available.
